50 German Companies That Hire in English (And How to Apply)
One of the biggest challenges for English-speaking professionals looking for work in Germany is identifying which companies actually operate in English. Many job listings are in German by default, and even when a company claims to be “international,” the day-to-day language might still be German.
This list focuses on companies where English is a genuine working language — not just tolerated, but used in meetings, documentation, Slack channels, and daily communication. We’ve organised them by sector and included a brief description of what each company does and where they are based.

How to Apply to German Companies
Knowing which companies hire in English is only the first step. How you apply matters. German hiring practices have some distinctive features that international applicants should understand.
Tailor Your CV to German Expectations
German employers — even English-speaking ones — often expect a CV structured differently from a US or UK resume. Include a professional photo, personal details, and a chronological format with no gaps. Read our full guide on how to write a CV for a German employer in English for detailed advice.
Write a Cover Letter (Even If Optional)
In Germany, the cover letter (Anschreiben) still carries weight. Even when a job listing says it is optional, including a well-written one can set you apart. Keep it to one page, address it to the hiring manager by name if possible, and focus on why you are interested in this specific company and role — not a generic overview of your career.
Use LinkedIn, Not Just Company Websites
Many German companies post roles on their careers page and on LinkedIn simultaneously. Applying via LinkedIn is perfectly acceptable, but also check the company’s own careers page — some roles are only posted there. XING is still used by some traditional German employers, but for English-language roles, LinkedIn is dominant.
Understand the ATS
Most companies on this list use an Applicant Tracking System (ATS) like Greenhouse, Lever, or Ashby. This means your application is scanned by software before a human sees it. To increase your chances:
- Use keywords from the job listing in your CV and cover letter.
- Avoid unusual formatting, graphics, or multi-column layouts.
- Submit in PDF format unless told otherwise.
- Fill in all fields in the application form — do not just attach a CV.
Be Patient With the Process
German hiring processes are often longer than those in the US or UK. Expect 3-5 interview rounds (phone screen, technical assessment, hiring manager interview, team fit interview, and sometimes a presentation or case study). The entire process can take 4-10 weeks. Do not interpret silence as rejection — follow up politely after a week if you have not heard back.
How to Identify Visa-Sponsoring Companies
If you are not an EU citizen, visa sponsorship is a practical necessity. Not all companies are willing or set up to sponsor visas, even if they hire in English. Here are signals to look for:
- The job listing mentions visa sponsorship explicitly. Phrases like “visa sponsorship available,” “we support relocation,” or “open to international candidates” are good signs.
- The company has a relocation page. Companies that routinely sponsor visas usually have a dedicated relocation section on their careers site.
- Large companies with HR departments. Companies with 100+ employees are more likely to have the infrastructure to handle visa processes.
- Companies in shortage occupations. Employers hiring for roles in IT, engineering, healthcare, and other shortage occupations are more willing to sponsor because the talent pool is limited.
On EmployedAt, you can use the visa sponsorship filter to see only listings from companies that actively sponsor work visas for international candidates.
